Dilip Kumar and Syed Zameer Jafri!

A few decades ago, a conference of comedians from all over the world was held in Hyderabad (Deccan) in which Syed Zameer Jafari and Raqim Al-Huroof from Pakistan were invited to participate. After staying in Hyderabad for 15 days, Syed Zameer Jafari and I left for Mumbai by plane for sightseeing. When we came out of the lounge, we saw a crowd of people. Mr. Jafari said, "Let's see what's going on." When we went further, we saw Dilip Kumar standing, it was one of the happiest moments of my life. My beloved actor was standing in front of me and was happily gossiping with the fans. Mr. Jafari went ahead and said, we are both from Pakistan, I am Zameer Jafari and with me is the young comedian Ata-ul-Haq Qasmi. God knows whether he knew our names or not but when he heard the word Pakistan his eyes sparkled with love and he shook hands with us enthusiastically and held our hands for a while alternately. ۔ Then Dilip Kumar asked us how many days you are in Mumbai, we told him only three days, on hearing this he gave us his phone number and said I am going to Bangalore now, we should meet you on our return. You have my phone number, you must call me the day after tomorrow, we will sit somewhere to eat and listen to you from Pakistan.

What a magnificent man he was, the heartbeat of millions, of which people were thirsty to see just a glimpse, he was chatting with ordinary people outside the airport waiting for the flight and we invited two foreigners to dinner. He loved Pakistan and his love for Pakistanis in this regard was not hidden. The flight to Bangalore was announced. On the way to the lounge, this great actor and great man hugged Jaffrey and me and said jokingly, "Look, don't lose my phone number." What is not known is that humility does not diminish their status but rather increases it. After that he came to Pakistan once, went to Peshawar to see his ancestral home and on one occasion his eyes filled with tears. The government expressed its love for him by giving him Pakistan's highest honor, the Pakistan Medal. Journalist Tahir Sarwar Mir, who is in constant touch with the stars of Pakistan and India, wrote on his death that when Nawaz Sharif was elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, he recited two Nafls of Thanks giving, this was told to Tahir Sarwar Mir by Saira Bano. And yes, on his death, a sectarian government like Modi buried him with state honors. His body was laid to rest during the Guard of Honor ceremony. May Allah Almighty grant Dilip Kumar a high position in Paradise and elevate his ranks.

Now a few things off topic. In Bombay, our taxi driver stopped in front of a hotel and said it was one of the best hotels in Bombay. And yes, this taxi driver, who was a Sikh, kept reciting the dialogues of the movie "Mola Jutt" all the way. Immediately after entering the room, Zameer Jafari took off his suit and lay down on his elbow on the bed in dhoti and vest. Where Zameer Jafari Sahib was a front line comedian, there were also front line people, he never harmed anyone and if anyone did evil, he would describe some of his good qualities, you can be sure that Hyderabad Deccan and Bombay During my stay, I longed for backbiting. I also saw one aspect of his philanthropy in Bombay. He left Lahore and until he reached Bombay, he continued to mention one of his Hindu poet friends with great love. He lived in Bombay so they started looking for him, looking for him whose address they didn't even have, I don't remember the poet's name, I just remember asking passers-by for his address. Besides, wherever he saw a poster of an Urdu poet, he would look for his name in it, and when he did not see it, he would get sad. Eventually he said, "Someone take a taxi, they know most of the places and people," so a taxi was hired and as soon as he sat in it and asked about the poet, he nodded. Then Zameer Sahib would stop the car at different places on the way and would ask about the poet while walking on any road and every time he would get sad after getting the answer in the negative. He stopped the car at another place and asked a man for the poet's residence. He pointed to one side and said, "That house in front belongs to him." At that time, Mr. Jafari was happy to see. The taxi stopped in front of his house, rang the bell, came out from inside wearing a dhoti in the style of a nappy, Jafari's eyes got wet with joy, went ahead and hugged him, but happiness on the face of this poet There were no traces till the time of We sat next to him for half an hour, maybe he drank tea or maybe he didn't. However, when he got up and came out, Zameer Sahib remained silent for a long time. I did not look at his face but I am sure that my friend was cold. But there must have been tears in their eyes!
